2 INJURED – 3 September 2010 – New Smyrna Beach, Florida, USA – surfers bitten

Two surfers suffered minor wounds after being bitten by sharks in separate incidents at New Smyrna Beach, Florida, USA, on Friday 3 September 2010.

The first incident happened around 9am in front of The Minorca condominium complex, near the Ponce Inlet jetty. The 24-year-old surfer, not named, was bitten on the thigh and took a private vehicle to hospital. No other details were reported.

The second incident happened after noon. Jason Coffman, 29, was bitten on the hand while surfing near Ponce de Leon Inlet jetty.

According to the report in the Boston Herald – Coffman said at one point he swung the surf board in front of him to try to pull his hand free from the shark’s mouth.

No other details were reported.
