Daniel Webb recovers from a shark attack at Jupiter Medical Center
Daniel Webb was bitten on the right leg by a 4-foot black-tipped reef shark, while diving near Jupiter Inlet in Florida, US. Webb is a diving instructor and was about 70-feet deep with a student when the attack happened on Sunday 12 June 2011.
He told media:
It just kind of darting all over the place … real jumpy and weird. It was the weirdest thing, and it circled up once and it was almost circling us again and it just came right in at me.
He just bit right down on my leg. It didn’t want to let go of my leg and there was a brief struggle for a few seconds for my leg, which fortunately, I won.
It was just incredible how fast it happened. It was incredible he actually bit me at all. He was on it and I had to shake him off. He finally let go and I was very thankful.
Webb was brought ashore by his co-workers and taken to Jupiter Medical Center. The doctor there commented that it was fortunate he kept his cool after the attack and ascended slowly to avoid getting the ‘bends’.
He received surgery for the wound and was expected to make a full recovery.
